CANSIM (Canadian Socio-economic Information Management System), is Statistics Canada's computerized data base and information retrieval service. The TDR subscription to CANSIM is accessed through CHASS Data Centre at the University of Toronto. CANSIM contains numerous time series covering a wide variety of data on such topics as the System of National Accounts, Labour, Manufacturing, Construction, Trade, Agriculture, Finance, Demographics and Crime. Selected data on population estimates and vital statistics are also available. Cansim is the most heavily used database at Canadian academic institutions.
Currently, CHASS is running three versions: the original version, CANSIM 1, as well as CANSIM II. New for 2007 is the CANSIM Multidimensional service. Concordances between CANSIM 1 & CANSIM 2 are available from the CANSIM II link as well as from our own HELP pages. CANSIM I ceased being updated on June 1, 2002.. Although CANSIM I is still accessible, it contains historical terminated series only. Please feel free to contact your TDR staff if you have any questions. Access to this site is subject to a licencing agreement which stipulates use by members of the University of Guelph, the University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University communities for academic, non- commerical purposes.
