TRAINING

An important objective of the Research Data Centre program is the enhancement of training in the areas of social data analysis and social policy research. According to the 1998 report of the Joint Working Group of Statistics Canada and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Canada currently has only limited capacity to conduct social policy research, evaluate social programs or monitor progress towards social aims. Research Data Centres are intended to address this need by allowing opportunities for graduate student research and by providing training in areas of complex social data analysis in conjunction with a planned series of summer Data Training Schools and graduate fellowship support.

The SWORDC facility will periodically be hosting training sessions and seminars in conjunction with participating partners. Past and upcoming seminars will be listed here. Users will also be able to access training materials posted for use of related data products.
