THE RESEARCH DATA CENTRES PROGRAM
The Research Data Centre (RDC) program is an initiative by Statistics Canada and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to help strengthen Canada's social research capacity and to support the policy research community. In partnership with Canadian universities nine secure research institutes housing complete micro-records of Statistics Canada longitudinal and other data sets are being opened.
Research Data Centres are a component of the Canadian Initiative on Social Statistics to promote social-policy relevant research for improving the lives of Canadians and to provide training in complex longitudinal social data analysis. Research Data Centres create an environment for fostering research, while maintaining confidentiality and security. They are Statistics Canada offices, located on university campuses, staffed by Statistics Canada employees and serving as repositories of Statistics Canada micro-data files. These files are made accessible to researchers of approved projects under the confidentiality provisions of the Statistics Act.
