ICPSR Direct is a service open to current faculty, staff and students of the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo. Wilfrid Laurier University members will continue to use the request service through their local data centre.

ICPSR Direct provides direct access to the ICPSR data holdings. Users will now have the option of downloading data sets directly from ICPSR. This service is intended for use by patrons with previous experience using SAS or SPSS programs. Users will be required to set up an account on the ICPSR Direct site before using this service. Follow the link to MyData Login/Account Info from the left toolbar on the ICPSR Direct home page to register.

The option to place a request to TDR staff at the user's home institution and have the data mounted in web retrieval format is still available.

HOW TO OBTAIN A DATASET

Access is available through the ICPSR on-line catalogue.

Searching the catalogue:

• Enter search term, study number, or investigator name. Submit search.
• The search results window will list all studies containing your search terms.
• Each study has a description file and a download option.

Downloading:

• When you have chosen the appropriate study, select download.
• An authorization window will appear with instructions. If you wish to continue, enter your e-mail address and click to continue.
• First-time users must complete the registration information before being allowed to continue.
• Once authorization is complete, the new results window will list files for download. It is recommended that users check the codebook to ensure the study meets their needs.
• Users have the choice of downloading zipped or unzipped versions of the files.
• Users must have a proxy server set up if they are accessing the data from off-campus. See proxy instructions at your home institution.

Restrictions:

It is the responsibility of the user to comply with all licence restrictions and conditions. See ICPSR Responsible Use Statement.
