Description:

Any place or territorial area entitled to return a member to serve in the House of Commons. FED legal limits and descriptions are the responsibility of the Chief Electoral Officer, and usually are revised every 10 years using the results of the decennial census.There are 295 FEDs in Canada, according to the 1987 Representation Order and there are 301 FEDs in Canada, according to the 1996 Representation Order.

The Federal Electoral Districts (1987 Representation Order) Digital Boundary File was created by aggregating the component EA boundaries from the 1996 Census.  It may differ slightly from the Digital Boundary File based on the 1991 enumeration areas. (Source: Statistics Canada)
