A
grouping of contiguous census subdivisions(CSD). In some cases,
a large CSD can form a CCS on its own. Generally the smaller,
more urban census subdivisions (towns, villages, etc.) are combined
with the surrounding, larger, more rural census subdivision,
in order to create a geographic level between the census subdivision
and the census division. In 1991 there were 2,630 CCS;
in 1996 there were 2,607 CCS. CCS are used primarily for
disseminating Census of Agriculture data. (Source: Statistics
