- The
Census Consolidated Subdivision Cartographic Boundary File for
Canada contains the boundaries of all 2,446 census consolidated
subdivisions for the 2001 Census. A census consolidated subdivision
(CCS) is a statistical area of aggregated census subdivisions
used by the Census of Agriculture. A census consolidated subdivision
is a grouping of adjacent census subdivisions. Generally the
smaller, more urban census subdivisions (towns, villages, etc.)
are combined with the surrounding, larger, more rural census
subdivision, in order to create a geographic level between the
census subdivision and the census division.
The Census Consolidated Subdivision Cartographic Boundary File
consists of polygons representing the census subdivisions. Every
polygon encoded as part of the land area of Canada has a CCSuid
(a code to uniquely identify each census consolidated subdivision)
associated with it. The Census Consolidated Subdivision Cartographic
Boundary File is available for Canada and by province / territory.
The national Census Consolidated Subdivision Cartographic Boundary
File consists of polygons representing 2446 census consolidated
subdivisions. There are more polygons than census consolidated
subdivisions primarily because of the additional polygons needed
to represent islands.
